Self Harm Toolkit Animation
MIND
A sensitive, informative animated film supporting mental health education in schools.
How it came together
The brief
Mental health charity Mind commissioned us to create an animated explainer to accompany their “Self Harm Toolkit”—a resource aimed at helping teachers and carers support school-age children.
The animation needed to be calm, accessible, and emotionally intelligent, while remaining rooted in practical advice. This was a powerful example of using educational animation for social good.
Creative Development
We worked closely with Mind to develop a script that aligned with their written materials, ensuring accuracy and sensitivity at every stage.
From there, we designed a unique visual style that was soft, empathetic, and clear—balancing the serious subject matter with reassuring visuals and a warm narrative tone. Accessibility was also key, so we produced an audio descriptive version alongside the main film.
Animation & Delivery
Once the storyboard and animatic were signed off, our animation team brought the film to life with gentle motion design and thoughtful pacing.
Everything from sound design to typography was crafted to support the subject without overwhelming it. The final animation now forms a core part of Mind’s mental health toolkit across Essex schools and beyond.
Mind Over Media
This project shows how animated video production can drive real impact—especially when tackling challenging topics.
By blending clarity, compassion, and craft, we created a piece of charity video content that continues to support educators, spark conversations, and make a real difference where it matters most.
